Environmental Modification
Environmental Modification refers to any kind of manipulation performed over the physical environment. Human beings have been modifying natural resources and its processes to fit their needs. Examples of these acts are mining, deforestation, and the building of dams.
Environmental Modification Techniques (ENMOD), however, involves the manipulation of climate, weather, seismic activity, and the use of chemical and biological weapons as part of tactical warfare. The ENMOD Convention established in 1978 is the international treaty prohibiting military use of these techniques to protect the environment from its hazardous effects.
